Social Activities

Two youth organizations from Bulgaria and Macedonia established contact via Internet and shared basic priorities and possible joint actions in solving environmental issues and strengthening peace on the Balkans. The organizations became ambassadors of a peaceful world, void of violence and ethnic prejudice. The project meets the need for expanding young people's knowledge of environment and environmental preservation on the Balkans.

Dobrich town municipality is the only Bulgarian municipality, which elaborated and in the moment implements Program for realization of public utilities enterprises on objects municipal property, with the participation of the citizens of Dobrich. In the elaboration of the program the municipal administration attended the idea to create real preconditions for civil community formation, and together with the implementation of the mechanism of public-private partnership citizens to take part in the construction and supporting of the public spaces parks, gardens, pavements, squares and others by their own means /as co-financing/ or with their labor.

The program has been accepted by the Municipal counsel of Dobrich town municipality with a Resolution in January, 2005.

Every year Svishtov municipality in collaboration with many other institutions organizes mass swimming across the Dunabe river, which takes place in the historic countryside Pametnicite by the town. That sport activity provokes great interest in the region and in the country.

Setting up a Roma club in Botevgrad is one of the latest initiatives of the municipal guidance. For lack of funds to finance entirely the idea we appealed to all the embassies in Bulgaria for cooperation. In a letter to the ambassadors we depicted the aims of our project and the anticipated results, namely faster integration of the Roma population.

The aim of the project is the liquidation of illiteracy among the Roma population in the town of Bratcigovo within a 9-month period of evening-classes. The training is being realized after the preliminary, written and declared desire from the part of the students for regular participation in the classes and successful graduating the course. The additional possibilities for education will provide disadvantaged people with the possibility for better realization at the Labour Market - a precondition for their more adequate integration in the society.

Increasing the chances for starting a private business of the redundant mine workers and the members of their families, achieving equality for everyone on the labour market and encouraging the unemployed workers for an active participation on the labour market through the establishment of a regional information-educational center for training to achieve computer and language skills, accountant s skills, how to rule/run a small company, preparation and realization of projects (trained around 360 people from target populations), wide presentation of the possibilities of the personnel potential of the region through website and advertisement brochures, implementation of intermediary, consult and expert services.

This practice presents a model of partnership for organizing a quality and practically oriented professional training for unemployed people from Zlatograd (people not working in the mines). For that purpose the instructors/teachers propose an untraditional method, the business representatives take active part in the training by using their practical experience; the trainings are in the domain of important public activities. A front office is being created for entrepreneurs and a Resource Center for unemployed that encourages the improvement of professional qualification and personal skills for realization in the local firms.

HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control Program, funded by Global Fund for fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, provides opportunity for developing municipal policy and actions in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention. The effective implementation of Component 7 requires efforts of local governments, institutions and organizations for acquiring necessary knowledge and skills.

An Open Door Center responses to the needs of youngsters and grown-ups to adapt adequately to the dynamics of the modern life society and the complicating human relationships. The clients of the Center are highly satisfy to know that their problems are met with consideration and also to learn new information about themselves and the surrounding environment. Such initiatives are extremely useful for small towns and municipalities. The project partners share the opinion that psychological prophylactics and extending the knowledge of the different social and age groups, forming skills for effective communication and understanding the individual differences are basic preconditions not only for psychological health, but also for building stable relationships and tolerance.
