Social Activities

The project, Those Who Sing Mean No Evil, was implemented by the Gotse Delchev Popular Community Center, village of Slivnitsa, and the Municipality of Kresna. Its purpose was to improve the social integration of Roma children and to create more opportunities for a diversified cultural life in the village. The project activities were focused on filling children s free time and on developing skills that would help them get better career opportunities in the future and integrate in the local community.

The implementation of the project improved the interaction model between the citizens of Kresna and the local government. The project s target group included disadvantaged people: unemployed, disabled, retired and poor. The community center provided them new access to services and became an intermediary in the communication process, something that was unknown in the municipality until now.

The project, My Best Friend, the Computer, was implemented by the Union of Disabled Persons in Bulgaria, Kresna. The project provides a model for providing the people with disabilities and the retired individuals facilities and opportunities for their free time, as well as opportunities to acquire new skills and information through the computer system purchased under the project. The project also built and equipped Disabled and Retired Persons Club, where a computer literacy course is available to people with disabilities.

The project is aimed at improving the social environment of the people with disabilities in the municipality of Svoge. This improves their social and cultural life and provides them an opportunity to get involved in all aspects of community life. The project creates conditions for successful social integration, contacts and entertainment and builds local and inter-municipal partnerships. By overcoming the isolation, the project creates equal opportunities and access.

The project for the establishment of a day center for children with disabilities in the municipality of Svoge provides alternative services to the children with disabilities and their families. The project creates conditions for successful social integration, contacts and entertainment, builds local partnerships of interested organizations, promotes the problems of the families with children with disabilities and attracts volunteers.

The project was implemented by the Nov Zhivot Popular Community Center. Its purpose was to overcome the social isolation of the people with impaired hearing and to change the social attitudes to their problems by improving the skills of the people who have direct contact with individuals with impaired hearing. An interesting fact to note is that the idea and the implementation of this project preceded a similar project developed by the national administration.

With this project, the Zdravest Disabled People s Association, Batak developed a sustainable model for the integration of the children and their parents, for teaching children from different ethnic groups tolerance at the earliest age possible. The project was implemented at the three kindergartens in the municipality of Batak: Treti Mart, Katya Vancheva, and Todor Cholakov. The activities for the establishment of friendships between children and adults and people with disabilities formed an important part of the project.

The Faith, Hope and Love Social Services and Contacts Center established under the project provides administrative, legal and information services and employs people with disabilities. The direct contact with the citizens provides them an opportunity to apply the accumulated knowledge and skills in practice. This model of delivering services to disadvantaged people and to the citizens is new for the municipality of Batak.

The Municipal center for social services and activities at the Municipality of Mezdra conducts policies of the municipal management in the area of social support. The Center is an active equivalent partner of the Municipality of Mezdra and as such it works for increasing citizens well being, encouraging their working activity and supporting them in their efforts to cope independently with everyday problems. The Center provides individual consultations to all citizens in need, aiming for their social integration and adaptation into society.
