Preventing and combating juvenile delinquency is an important community task. It is a key element of the National program for protection of children s rights, health and safety.
Prevention is the basis of eliminating juvenile delinquency. It is a complex process of engaging children in attractive free time activities and learning events leading to skills and knowledge enhancement and positive attitudes to society. The project target group are children from risky family environment, with low parental control. Children from the Special Needs School are especially prone to negative influences, the risk increasing during the holiday time.
The Municipal Committee for combating juvenile and underage delinquency has limited financial resources and seeks to implement partnership initiatives with NGOs engaged in social projects for children and young people. The main partner Most Foundation founded in 2000 but already implementing significant activities with UK and German partners has initiated beneficial social projects in Sliven, including daily free snacks for 100 children at the Special Needs School, provision of clothes, donations to social and health institutions.
The Summer Center for Preventive Social Activities is based at Most Foundation premises. It works on a weekly schedule, orginises film shows, chess play sessions, games and other entertainment, visits to nature beauty spots and culture sites in the Sliven Balkans, The House of Water visits etc. Two experienced tutors lead the activities at the Summer Center.
Children s summer free time is meaningfully planned in the summer holiday. Children are placed at a distance from the environment which sets bad examples. They develop skills and habits which contribute to their personal growth. They learn to socialize, work in teams and collaborate with each other.
