The See What I Can project, implemented by the Ravitie Community Center and the Municipality of Peshtera, provided a model for the integration of Roma children of pre-school age and in first grade to the school community and to society in general, as integration means equal involvement of people with differences in the current social dynamics. The project is the first in a series of project in the social area that will be implemented in the municipality. The project is focused on the integration of disadvantaged children. 45 children were trained. The children were divided in 3 groups of 15; each group was trained on a different topic computer literacy, English and social problems. The project was implemented over a period of 9 months. Each of the groups went through the three training on a rotation basis.

The project created a model for increased awareness of the citizens of the municipality. The Razvitie Community Center organized 16 broadcasts (one every week) on radio Peshtera, each of them on important social issues. Various journalistic forms (surveys, interviews, dialogues, open phone lines, etc.) were used to present information about the activities of citizen associations, national and municipal institutions working in the social area.

The young people in Bratsigovo (the poor and those in the two orphanages) were involved in a long-term information campaign on the effects of drug abuse. Specialists from the Municipal Drug Board in Pazardzhik provided advice and information. The project gave the young people in the municipality an opportunity for active involvement in the individual events and to make their own conclusions on the dangers of drug abuse.

The people with disabilities were provided information on different legal, social and health issues. Now, after so many years, they have their own club, which was made possible with the support of the municipal management. The project built the first two disabled access ramps at public buildings (the clinic and the post office). The involvement of the people from UDPB Bratsigovo was exceptional and multiplied the positive effects from the project.

The purpose of the Together We Can project implemented by the N. Y. Vaptsarov Popular Community Center in Godech was to initiate the re-integration of disabled Roma children and children from poor families into the city s public, cultural and social life. The development of interest in knowledge, joint activities and the development of personal skills is a step towards providing these children the dignified place in public life they deserve.

The Family Memory project was developed to preserve the region s traditional crafts, songs, customs and rituals. The project has two target groups: the elder citizens carrying the wisdom of the past and the traditions; and the young people who need new moral grounds. Bridging the gap between youth and elder provides an opportunity for the transfer and re-consideration of folklore experience and knowledge. The elder citizens get a chance to feel useful and complete, while the youth are given the opportunity to enrich local traditions with their ideas.

The project for the establishment of an office club for people with disabilities has proven that, when favorable conditions are present, the people with disabilities can learn, create, have fun and acquire skills and knowledge that would make them competitive at the labor market and would help them feel real citizens of the municipality.

The Equal Opportunities for Each of Us project was implemented by the Makaza 2002 Association. Its purpose was to overcome the social isolation of motion impaired people. The project team worked to create real conditions for the social integration and adaptation of disadvantaged individuals by the construction of ramps to public places.

The project had two purposes: to fill students free time with amusing extracurricular training forms (computers, photography and dancing); and to acquaint the children aged 13 14 with the activities of the institutions in the municipality of Kirkovo. The project created a model for a successful, adequate and timely intervention in the formation of the personality and the expansion of children s horizons.
