The information campaign Europe: pass it on! started in Sliven, initiated by the Mayor of Sliven Mr. Yordan Lechkov and the Regional Governor Mrs. Christina Cholakova, in partnership with the Minister of European Affairs Mrs. Meglena Kouneva.
Minister Kouneva was a guest to the celebration of the beginning of the school year in Sliven. In Vasil Levski school she took part in a game with students from first grade on the theme Bulgaria-European Union - which is the shortest way between them?
During the information campaign a lot of information meetings were carried out.
On 27 August the Minister for European Affairs Mrs. Meglena Kouneva visited the Mayor of Municipality of Sliven Mr.Yordan Lechkov. During the meeting Mrs. Kouneve red a lecture on the theme How to use the achieved from the negotiations with the European Union? How to prepare ourselves for the year 2007? At the discussion were representatives of non-political organizations and business areas.
On 1 November 2004, Minister Kouneva was on a two-day visit in Sliven.
Meetings with students and university students were carried out in the chamber of Municipality of Sliven. One of the themes, proposed for discussion by the children from Sliven, was European standards myth or reality . This meetings were the continuation of the discussion which Minister Kouneva began on the first day of the new school year and is part of the campaign Europe pass it on!
On November 2, 2004, in the Regional Administration was held a meeting with representatives of associations of minorities.
In the final stage of the campaign Minister Kouneva met the intellectual and cultural elite of Sliven.
The main goal of the information campaign Europe pass it on! was to make more and more citizens ask questions and find information about the future EU membership. The team of Minister Kouneva, Regional Administration-Sliven, Regional Council - Sliven and the Municipality of Sliven worked together for the carrying out of the information campaign. During one month citizens had the possibility to send their questions on internet, addressing their e-mails to the Information Center working with citizens of Municipality of Sliven, to the secretariat of the Regional Administration, to call at two Eurotelephones and to visit the websites of the Municipality of Sliven (www.sliven.bg) and the Regional Administration-Sliven (www.sliven.government.bg). The answers of Minister Kouneva, divided by themes are available on the website of the Regional Administration-Sliven.
In the framework of the European campaign coordinated by the directorate International Cooperation and European Integration Sliven over 180 questions were asked by local citizens from different areas.
Special survey of the sociological agency Alfa Research about the information campaign report that 86% of the citizens of Sliven think that Bulgaria has no future outside the EU, and 75% of them are firmly for our membership in the European Union.
