Background
The first Web page of the Bourgas Municipality was prepared within the project for raising public awareness on the Municipality development process and the work of the municipality administration. It includes much of the data collected and used at the information desk, which functioned until 1996 as a basic means of providing information for citizens. A special electronic board at the Town Hall is used for the announcement of vacant jobs.

Practice
The Municipality of Bourgas has received from its Internet supplier the right to use the name of Bourgas on the www.bourgas.net server for free. Through the Internet, the Municipality has developed a new structure of presenting municipal projects, administration, current regulations, additional services and communication with the citizens of Bourgas. This is the natural follow-up of the existing Internet information about the cultural events and institutions in the town, the Eco-bulletin, vacant jobs, schools, pharmacies, etc.
The Web site of the municipality administration has the following structure:

b) Activities (individual departments);
c) Latest news (incl. Events archive);
2. Municipality Council:
a) Structure and Commissions;
b) Regulations;
c) Sessions and Decisions;
3. Municipality History:
a) Important dates;
b) Mayors;
c) History of the Municipality building;
4. Vacant Jobs
5. International Cooperation:
a) Projects;
b) Twinning programs;
6. Announcements and Auctions
7. Ecology:
a) Eco-bulletin;
b) Environmental programs;
8. Urban Planning - projects, discussions
9. Local Elections - the Law on Local Elections, list of election sections
10. Feedback - comments, discussions, suggestions.
The basic information is offered in both Bulgarian and English, vacant jobs and the regulations of the Municipality Council are only in Bulgarian.
The site has been developed at several stages according to the priorities quoted by citizens in the sociological research produced by the Foundation Bourgas - Ecology - Man. The municipality Department of PR and Sociological Research is responsible for maintaining the tradition of seeking feedback from citizens. Of special interest is the Guests Page where anyone could write a comment, remark, recommendation or opinion.
The Municipality is responsible for collecting data while the information on vacant jobs is received via e-mail from the Bureau of Employment. The updating of information on latest news, ecology and vacant jobs is also done by the Municipality.
