The Municipality of the City of Dobrich has a number of buildings of administrative , cultural or other importance to the citizens , which however do not provide direct access to disabled people .

In 2000 the Municipality of Dobrich developed a project for solving access problems and applied to DfID for funding. The project was approved, contracted and funded by 9 200 GBP for:

- Building safe staircases for providing access to people with disabilities.

- Ensuring spcial car park places and marking them appropriately in the areas of public institutions

- Signalling at crossroads to let disabled people cross safely to administrative buildings.

- Repair of existing access points in the central part of the city.

The funds provided were used to build new access points for disabled people to the buildings of the Municipal Administration, Regional Administration, Art Gallery, Yordan Yovkov Theatre, Territorial Tax Directory, Labour Bureau, Education directorate, Culture Directorate and other institutions.

Sound signalization has been mounted on busy crossroads, and marking of parking places has been accomplished in car parks near public buildings.

The implementation of this project achieved a higher level of architectural accessibility of the urban environment and municipal responsibility for the interests of people with disabilities .
