The joint initiative between the Municipality of Kardzhali and Krug Art Movement aimed at creating a fund for modern art in Kardzhali. The Fund already has 90 works from modern foreign and Bulgarian artists. Fund’s goal is to embolden artists from different countries to create works of art on the territory of the municipality by their participation in visiting exhibitions and various European initiatives. The developments of this Fund, its introduction and enrichment have turned into an integral part of the strategy for regional development.  

During 2003 the municipal council in Kardzhali granted to Krug Art Movement the demolishing ex-school building in the village of Dajdovnica for cultural purposes. Two years later with the support of the Swedish cultural program and the Swedish Development Agency began building reconstruction and implementation of a new type of cultural calendar with an international participation. Since 2005 till today over 200 separate artists, art groups and students from Europe, Israel, Japan ant the USA have worked there on different programs and art exchanges. Their works have remained as donations for Krug Art Movement and have become a valuable resource, including for tourists, and have been sent in the Art Gallery in Kardzhali on holidays. This Art Gallery is also a result of the partnership between The Municipality of Kardzhali and Krug Art Movement.

The foundation of a Fund for modern art in Kardzhali is a result of the creation of a network of 2 art centers by the Municipality of Kardjali and Krug Art Movement (Foundation Youth Centre Krug, Public interest NGO) as well as their inclusion in the strategy for development of cultural tourism in the region.

A fund for modern art was created through donations and it became an attraction for tourists and  connoisseurs;

The municipality became more attractive because of the activities in the field of culture and creative work;

The interest of cultural researchers and creators for work in an innovative environment was emboldened thanks to the establishment of an art bases in the Eastern Rhodopi Mountain;

Conditions for mobility of works and creators from all over the Europe and the world were created.
