As one of the symbols of the local self-government the mayor's badge is brought at official occasions and displays the power of its bearer given by his/her voters and his/her legal competence according to the Law for local self-government and local administration.

At a proposal of the mayor of the municipality was established a commission, which discussed the design of the badges and the manner of their bestowal. Together with a team of artists was created a model and miniature of the badge.

In the municipal counsel was brought a report to complement the Decree for symbols, honorary signs and titles of Botevgrad Municipality. The mayor's and deputy mayor's badge was added to the honorary signs of Botevgrad municipality .

It was decided the mayor's badge to be bestowed to the newly-elected mayor of Botevgrad Municipality by the chairman of the Municipal Counsel at the first or the following working session of the Municipal Counsel, as for the deputy mayor's badge - it will be bestowed by the mayor of the municipality at ceremonial meeting.

The first badges were bestowed on the occasion of the Day of the employees in the state administration, celebrated for a first time in 2006.

To the elected officials of the local government was attested respect and esteem.

Badges are symbol of power and obligation.
