Investment Forum: "Do business in Dobrudja"
Municipality of Dobrich
Background
For several years now the industry on the territory of Dobrich (as on the territory of the whole country) is in a state of stagnation which is expressed in a loss of markets where the production of Dobrich firms could be realized; in a lack of modern equipment for the production of better quality products and in a shortage of financial resources for maintenance of the production process and for modernization of the technological and intellectual potential of the firms. It is necessary to attract foreign investors interest towards the industrial firms mainly profiled in the food and light industry.

It is necessary to attract foreign investors interest towards the industrial firms mainly profiled in the food and light industry.
Practice
To overcome those problems the Investment Forum "Do Business in Dobrudja" is organized in partnership with the municipality of Dobrich-town, the Agency for Regional Development and Investments-Dobrich and Dobrich Fair, Ltd. The forum has been organized for two years now (1997, 1998) and more than 130 firms and guests have taken part in it.
The firms are presented with their stands; they are given the opportunity to use audio, video and other materials. During the forum, seminars, including lectures delivered by officials and experts, are conducted and discussions are held.
The major aims of the organizers are:
Ё to attract real financial investments or such in the form of technical or technological equipment and to introduce intellectual products of foreign and domestic firms to Dobrich companies in order to revive the economy of the municipality; - to create new employment opportunities in the town firms and to lower the rate of unemployment;
- to present leading foreign companies from different fields of the economy to the participants in the forum and to the public in order to share their successful experiences in the production process and marketing;
- to establish business negotiations and potential contracts between the firms-guests and the ones form the town;
- to promote the production and the services provided by the Dobrich trade companies in the country and abroad.

Results
Thanks to the Investment Forum, the investments in different production sectors considerably increase. The investments are in the form of buying new equipment and technology as well as in gaining ownership over ex-state companies. For example, in the leather industry, investments reach $2.5 billion including $600 thousand for reconstruction and technological equipment and $1,900 thousand purchasing price of the firm. The investments also aim at developing small and medium business in the light industry with direct foreign participation of DEM 700 thousand. DEM 397 thousand for equipment and technology are invested in the production of male and female clothing.
