During the period 10 - 23 May 2006 the Foundation for Local Government Reform organized a series of training seminars for the municipal councils, municipal administrations and community organizations within the municipalities of Kostenets, Ihtiman, Sopot, Peshtera, Bratsigovo, Kresna and Strumyani.
The main objective of the training seminars was to increase the knowledge and awareness of the participants about the conditions in which Bulgarian local governments and communities would work after the accession of the country to the European Union. The events also introduced the possibilities for the implementation of local projects within the Operational Programmes, which will be funded by the Structural Funds of the European Union after 2007.
More than 80 representatives from the municipalities took part in the initiative, which is part of the efforts of the "Improving the Social Environment" Programme funded by Charles Steward Mott Foundation to build and improve the local communities` capacity.
