FLGR's board and team express their gratitude for the numerous congratulations and wishes received. We believe that we'll continue together along the path of changes towards a democratic, effective and citizen-oriented local government in Bulgaria!
Excerpt from the address of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgi Purvanov, May 25, 2005
Your efforts in support of the municipalities and the non-governmental organizations have asserted the Foundation for Local Government Reform as one of the leaders in the civic sector. I am impressed by the dedication and the professionalism of the teams involved in the formulation of the methodology for the development of municipal and regional development plans, by their ability to concentrate on the specific needs of individual municipalities and to provoke innovation in local government.
Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to assure you that your local government development projects and initiatives could always rely on my personal support, on the assistance and the cooperation of my team.
By consolidating our efforts, we could respond to the new challenges faced by the municipalities and the civic sector.
Happy anniversary!
Excerpt from the address of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, May 20, 2005:
Even a brief review of FLGR's achievements over these 10 years inspires respect: many publications responding to the real needs of local governments and encouraging a new style of governance; a Professional Training Center; financial and technical assistance to municipalities and non-governmental organizations; consistent efforts to improve municipal service delivery based on the 'one-stop shop' principle; and implementation of a pro-active local economic development policy. FLGR's efforts in building the capacity of Bulgarian local and regional authorities to utilize EU's accession and, in the future, Structural and Cohesion Funds, the development of methodological guidelines on the formulation of important national strategic documents, such as the municipal and the regional development plans, are especially impressive.
I believe that in the future the Foundation for Local Government Reform will continue to act as a reliable and responsible partner to the Bulgarian municipalities and regions.
I wish you and FLGR's enthusiastic team new ambitious tasks and achievements. I believe that the most precious achievement one could have is to look back and be able to say: "It was worthy! We succeeded!" I'm convinced that you and your team have the right to say these words.
