On February 22, 2012, Wednesday, at the Conference hall of the Municipality of Knezha a press conference was held to report results of monitoring of public civil services "Maintenance of street network" and "Home social patronage". The aim of the press conference was to present to the citizens of the municipality the results of 6-month citizen monitoring of citizens on the provision of two public services by the municipality. The main conclusions that can be drawn from the monitoring are:
- Monitoring of any public service is specific and requires consideration of appropriate tools and duration of monitoring;
- Civil monitoring of public service appears to be a useful tool for the municipal administration to obtain feedback on the level of citizen satisfaction with the service provided. Monitoring of the service could be performed by administrators by determining the period of observation, as it does not require a large commitment on their part;
- Through regular feedback municipal administration can assess and to what extent the service provided is appropriate;
- By receiving suggestions from citizens local government can improve the quality of service;
- The more the local authorities respond to the citizens’ suggestions, the more the citizens are motivated to participate in monitoring public services. This contributes to the establishment of a working model for interaction between citizens and the municipality to improve the quality of services provided at local level.
