In November 2004 the Department of Еthnic Integration was established following the adoption of a new administrative structure in Botevgrad Municipality. An extensive survey among Roma people was prepared and conducted by the newly established department.

The survey aims at analyzing the social status of Roma population in Botevgrad Municipality. The idea is to conduct a survey at the end of every year. Unemployed Roma people actively joined the initiative within National Programme for Social Assistance and Employment 2004.

937 Roma families were inquired, 329 are dwellers of villages within Botevgrad Municipality.

The inquiry presents figures about : Employment rate; Social insurance; Health insurance; Level of education; School activity; Housing necessity

• Social needs of Roma people were defined exactly and precisely
• The beginning of statistics on status changes of Roma population was started
• Joining Roma people in the initiative resulted in accurate information provided
• Problems determined after the survey implementation were settled for solving by the municipal administration within different programmes and projects.
