Reconstruction of main water supply system in the village of Novo Selo,

Background
The idea for the project emerged as an attempt to solve the water supply problems of the village of Novo Selo, whose water supply system was built more than 35 years ago. Novo Selo uses its own water source with sufficient quantity of water to supply the whole village, but due to frequent damages of the main water supply system, people would stay without water for days.
In 1998 the water supply problem in Novo Selo reached its critical point. Frequent crashes of the main water supply system caused water cuts for several days each month. That became a serious problem at the Children and Youth Foster Home, Social Home Service, restaurants, residential buildings, kindergartens, etc.

Practice
A specialist from the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy in Sofia conducted the survey of the hydraulic condition of the water supply system in Novo Selo, and developed a project for reconstruction of the main water supply channel. The preliminary budget showed that the municipality was unable to cover all the expenses of the project implementation. Not only all asbestos and cement pipes had to be replaced with polyethylene ones, but also all water supply fittings had to be renewed.
After the beginning of the Danube River Initiative program of Foundation for Local Government Reform and US Agency for International Development, the Municipality of Novo Selo applied with a project, that was approved and realized in the summer of the year 2000. The construction work cost 75 000 leva. The implementation of this project has proven its great social importance.
