The town of Botevgrad takes its name from Hristo Botev for 70 years already. Every year on the occasion of the death of that great poet we organize various initiatives. For two years now the municipal guidance together with the Youth tourist society organizes an excursion "Along the steps of Botev".

Along the steps of Botev is an initiative, that came up spontaneously and for a second year now shows it is a necessity for the young people in Botevgrad municipality. The traditional national excursion Kozlodui Okolchitsa is a tempting suggestion, but not everyone of the youths in the town of Botev has the possibility to go.

On initiative of the municipal guidance in 2004 on the eve of July, 2 was organized an excursion that includes all the villages closely connected with the tragic death if Botev. The excursion starts in Botevgrad and ends in the village of Skravena, where is the monument of the Botev s rebels, in which are kept all their heads bought off by the local citizens (it is believed that among them is the head of Botev too).

The participants in the excursion stop for a while in Hristo Botev junior high school in the village of Litakovo, where they take part in the graduation handing the diplomas of the students.

Participants in the excursion are students from secondary and primary schools on the territory of Botevgrad, members of the Youth tourist society and members of Municipal council Botevgrad.

• More students became interested in the event from 18 participants in 2004 their number increased to 29 in 2005;
• In the excursion organized in 2005, also took part students from secondary schools;
• The preliminary preparation required the participants to learn about the life of Botev, which enriched their knowledge;
• Together with the historical purpose of this excursion, participants received good physical training, because they walked for about 30km.
