Background
The Municipality of Glavinica was one of the municipalities trying to develop and implement projects related to improving the quality of life. Building a municipal market place in the town of Glavinica turned the city into an urban place, a convenient site for meetings and walks for the citizens of the region. It has ensured trade expansion and improved conditions for the manufacturers. The tendency for the newly built market was to become a place where local growers could sell their production.

Practice
In the beginning of 2000 the Municipality applied and won the project as part of the Danube Initiative Program of the Foundation for Local Government Reform and the US Agency for International Development. The contractor was Stroiproekt Construction Company from the town of Silistra. The construction site was located in the central part of the town of Glavinica, next to Vasil Levski High School yard and the open sewage pipe in total is 2000 sq.m. The foundations of the administrative building were set, along with 24 parking spots, 54 covered trade stalls, asphalt pavement, and green rest areas. Two bridges were built, the market was provided with water and electricity, as well as with a fence, dividing it from the school.
Local workers from the Association of Employment and Structural Development and long term unemployed people worked on the project. Playgrounds, asphalt-paved streets and flower and green areas replaced what once were muddy paths. Stroitehnika firm Glavinica placed beautifully made trade stalls everywhere along the market street. In the beginning of December 2000 (eleven months after the project started) the new market place was officially opened in the presence of numerous guests, representatives of the collaborating organizations and citizens of the town of Glavinica.

Realization of the program contributed to the modernizing of the Municipality of Glavinica. The partnership of the firms opened new work positions. A contemporary trade center has been built and new activities have been initiated. Citizens of the town expect to look at and live in the modern Municipality of Glavinica.
