The larger use of electronic devices in the contemporary society imposes the requirement for fast and effective interaction among the different departments of the municipal administration. In the fall of 2003, the municipal management took the responsibility before the citizens of Svishtov to enforce the Electronic Municipality type of communication with the municipal administration.

The Municipality of Svishtov created E-Municipality Section as a part of the Municipal Internet site www.svishtov.bg. It was created after officials of the Administrative, legal, and information services Department in cooperation with independent experts had done significant systemization and information selection. At this stage of the project, the new section of the Internet site provides information about municipal property rents, transportation, and Municipal programs for small project financing. The new section was the only mean to popularization and distribution of the necessary documents for applying to the Program for local initiatives 2004 of the Municipality of Svishtov. In near future, the E-Municipality will provide information and schedules in the following areas:

- possibilities for project financing;

- administrative services and documentation circulation;

- services for enterprises in trade, manufacture, craftsmen, and public services;

- municipal property management, privatization, municipal investment;

- human and labor resources, labor market;

- medical services;

- education activities, culture and historical sites, public activities;

- organizations, publishing activities, health and pension insurance, agricultural policies, environmental policies.

As a result of the E-Municipality Section there is a tendency towards better knowledge of the administrative procedures; resources and time saving in documentation processing, as well as transparency in the work of the local authorities.
