Background

In its active work so far, IKAR has implemented three successful projects on the topic “prevention of trafficking in people”. They have all demonstrated that the interactive methods are a very good way to involve the teenager target group. Role play and fun, in combination with serious issues, such as people trafficking, are attainable and effective working methods of a dynamically developing NGO in Bulgaria. Taking into account the good partnerships we established in different towns and successful activities with the target groups, we believe that the “BLIND GAME” project is our most mature experience for professional activities with adolescents so far.

Practice

The main objective of the project is: Development of a sustainable model for teenage trafficking  prevention among teenagers from 6 high schools in Dimitrovgrad, Kardzhali, Rakitovo and Kostandovo. These also include special high schools - a special care school, a health school and a Social educational and professional center in the four towns.

During project implementation we created a multimedia product on the topic of “people trafficking”. We implemented a 4-month interactive module in 4 theatre and discussion clubs with children from the 4 project towns. A photo group was formed and 3 photo exhibitions were held in the towns. We trained and motivated contact groups of volunteers in each of the project towns for contact with the institutions, citizens and media. The final project forum-production was presented in three open happenings for the community of each of the project towns accompanied by three photo exhibitions. Visual materials developed under the project were disseminated.

Results
  • By means of art, a contemporary innovative method was used to disseminate information about the problem known as human trafficking among the risk target group of adolescents from 4 towns in South Central Bulgaria.
  • 120 children were provoked to adopt new ways of thinking and to obtain social skills and attitudes towards the problem known as "human trafficking".
  • The project was popularized in the most effective and emotional way possible relevant to the target group of children and to the wide audience of adults and parents. This was achieved through the blog and forum on the project and the Facebook page which are listed below.
  • 4 000 brochures were prepared and disseminated on the topic which could reach an additional 15 000 parents, relatives and members of the target group as well as citizens from the four project towns in three different administrative districts in Bulgaria.
  • 500 posters were disseminated and posted and 200 CDs were prepared with video clips and the key moments of the project.
