The Koprivshtitsa 21 century Project aims to stimulate citizen activity and public participation in the solution of local social and economic problems. Overcoming the sceptiticism and obstacles of various character the population unites around the ides of:
- encouraging employment and increase of income;
- development of tourism, agriculture and crafts;
- setting up associations and implementing citizen initiatives at local level.

Following the ProgrammeAction Plan approved, RAM Maritsa prepared a set of materials, consisting of addresses adopted by the General Assembly; letters to the newly elected local authorities; an inventory of the local media etc. The information policy of the Association was discussed with the LGI consultants Silvia Beamish and Maxim Behar in the presence of a group of journalists.

In view of the social and economic problems of the city of Razgrad and the region and in an attempt to find alternative solutions for economic stabilization, a Center for Economic Development is set up in the municipality. It unites the efforts of local authorities, private business, various governmental and nongovernmental organizations as well as the public, in creating conditions for the development of small and medium businesses and ensuring economic stability of the municipality.

The mission of NASM RB is to achieve effective local government, to defend the professional interests of the secretaries of municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria and to widen their expertise. The Association, through its partnership with similar international organisations, is equipped with valuable information about the contemporary forms of organisation and management of the processes in local government.

The Municipality of Varna increases the level of information of its citizens about the processes of development of the health insurance system. The project involves creating an electronic system for processing the declarations, installed in the Information Center to the Municipality. It has been well received for providing an easy access to information, as well as speed and accuracy of services.

With a decision of the Municipal Council of Dobrich, the municipal administration opens a procedure for granting concession on municipal property for a period of 15 years and holds competition for the selection of the concessioner. The objective of the concession is the building of Kindergarten 22 in the town of Dobrich, which becomes the biggest private hospital in the country.

The project Encouraging Citizens Initiative for Direct Participation in Environmental Decision Making and Sustainable Regional Development helps the strengthening of citizens organizations and provides information to the population on the existing environmental problems. A successful cooperation between NGOs, local government, citizens groups and media has been established. A training program is designed and three guides on environmental protection and sustainable development are published. 80 representatives of NGOs, local authorities, media and academic circles have been trained.

The creation of Bulgarian indicators for sustainable communities is becoming an urgent matter. To facilitate the entire process, the Public Center presents the international experience in this field, and develops a handbook entitled An Example of Creating Sustainable Development Indicators , which offers a specific model for establishing indicators and methods for collecting and processing information.

The project aims to present a model for interactive policy making, which improves the communication and beneficial interaction between local government and citizens. In Yambol, citizens participation and cooperation with the Municipal Council, the Labor Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce and Economy, has led to the establishment of an information and consultation centre for solving the unemployment problem in the region.

A Local Healthcare Centre is established in the Roma neighborhood Buntsova Mahala in the village of Rakitovo. It provides qualified and competent medical services and consultations, and diverse information about hygiene and healthcare through a series of seminars. Roma healthcare workers are trained on site and take part in the centre s activities, working with local families. The project is implemented by the Bulgarian National Committee for UNICEF and the Christian Children Fund - United Kingdom and Ireland, with the financial assistance of the European Union.
